CTC Internship Opportunities
Are you a student passionate about sustainable transportation, equitable mobility, and creating positive change in your community? Join CTC as an intern and gain invaluable experience advocating for better public transit in Iowa City.
What You'll Do
CTC interns play an integral role across many of our initiatives and tasks, including:
Research & Analysis
• Collect and analyze data on current transit routes, rider satisfaction, accessibility, etc.
• Conduct policy research and literature reviews
• Map transit survey results, amenities, and gaps using GIS
Community Outreach
• Assist with planning and staffing public events and forums
• Administer rider surveys and gather stakeholder input
• Canvass neighborhoods and community groups
Communications
• Draft content for our newsletter, website, and social media channels
• Develop outreach materials like fact sheets and presentations
• Assist with media relations and storytelling projects
Advocacy & Organizing
• Support petition drives and grassroots advocacy campaigns
• Attend city council meetings and provide reports
• Engage with community partners like nonprofits and employers
While contributing to meaningful work, you'll gain hands-on experience in community organizing, public policy, communications, data analysis, and more. Interns will have opportunities for leadership, project management, and applying skills from their field of study.
What You'll Gain
• Exposure to transportation planning, policy, and equitable mobility issues
• Understanding of how to run effective advocacy and civic engagement campaigns
• Data analysis, mapping, and research skills
• Experience in communications, public speaking, and stakeholder engagement
• Insights into the inner workings of a mission-driven nonprofit
CTC interns come from diverse academic backgrounds including urban planning, public policy, communications, geography, and more. We welcome students at all levels who are passionate about our mission.
The Internship Experience
We offer internship positions during the fall, spring, and summer terms. Interns can expect a minimum 10 hours per week commitment, with option for more hours during the summer during summer.
In addition to their assigned projects, interns will:
• Attend CTC's monthly community meetings
• Participate in organizational training sessions
• Receive mentorship from experienced advocates and professionals
At this time, all internships are unpaid.
